21 goals in 4 games, 18 of them scored by the U13s, 7 of them by Alex Armstrong including his 2nd hat trick today (and he missed the first 20 minutes of the game..)
Our first morning game so several missing with school engagements, 7 changes from last week's side and we only got to 14 with the help of 4 guests from the 6s. A few of us had to play out of position, the substitution rota was a bit disruptive and Potters Bar played very deep with one man up, so finding and keeping the right shape was always a challenge. We had lots of space in midfield and on the whole moved well out of defence, Greyson standing out with well mixed running and passing, but as last week we were missing the clean hit or the last pass to the post to get the goal.
Bar managed to mug our exceptionally veteran central defence for pace and took the lead against the run of play. We reverted to a sweeper and didn't have too many scares after that. Then Alex arrived and the extra drive he brought opened the door. We were 2-1 up at half time (Alex x 2), Chris Duncan added 2 early in the 2nd half, Bar pulled one back in a brief spell of sustained pressure, but in the last 15 minutes it was just a question of how many we would score. The answer was 6, as Alex completed his second successive hat trick and Harry Denton scored his first senior goal (and then topped that with the tackle of the match, sprinting 40 yards to dispossess their centre forward when he looked to be alone on the keeper).
Bar rallied at the end and Laurens had to make a couple of sharp saves to keep the scoreline honest.
Elliot Purves made a strong debut, adding to our embarrassment of riches in wide midfield, with Santi and Harry Nunn looking sharp up front this week. Still work to do on defensive support from midfield, but it got better as the game went on.
Thanks to Mike (again), Tim Albery, Tony Dean and Chris Duncan for helping out this week.
