Letchworth 5s 6 Hertford 6s 0

Life is certainly proving to be tough in div6, another heavy defeat but one that once again didn’t reflect the closeness of the game on the the pitch. For long periods particularly in the first half we played the game to their half of the pitch but were unable to turn this pressure into goals.
Letchworth scored their first goal early on having caught us defenders napping and was well put away by their experienced centre forward.
I think we all let our heads drop momentarily following that goal but we then went on the attack looking good as we have done all season so far when moving forward. The main difference between us was the final pass and finishing in the D.
Despite the score we had some excellent performances particularly in midfield with the added strength and pace of Ben Moses from the 5s (who had an excellent game, one of the best I have seen him play) Aaron, Ben and James Murray along with Freddie improve with every game. The defence played well but were made to pay the price for any mistakes by precise finishing from Letchworth particularly in the second half when we pushed up to try and get back into the game. A big thanks must go to Geoff in goal for helping us out by playing back to back games.
I particularly felt the sense of frustration we had as a team this week we have played better in a number of games than the score line reflected.
We are all playing a higher standard of hockey this season, so moving forward we need to keep positive keep the work rate up, move the ball a little quicker and become more clinical in front of goal, I have no doubt about the quality of our team and the potential of the younger players in particular and we can still turn things around as the season progresses.

We have another bye next week as Luton dropped out of the league, but may be needed to support other teams as necessary. We are back in action on the 25th v Saffron Walden a game we should look to take some points from. Simon Balle 4pm so please set availability as soon as you can.
