Another tough encounter with the 5’s.
Another good team performance again yesterday, despite playing an extremely strong 5th team we competed well. The midfield Andy, Matt, Kris, James and Freddie closed the opposition down quickly and preventing them getting control of the game. On the occasions they did break through the defence held firm, and some excellent saves from Andy in goal combined with a couple of line clearances by Mike kept us in the game. Twenty five minutes into the game the pace of Tom combined with some excellent finishing from Aaron put us one up at half time, and for the remainder of the half the 5’s were a bit disorganised as their frustration showed.
From the start of the second half it was obvious they had changed things around and were far more effective in midfield equalising in the first minute of the second half. As we started to tire the benefit of them having 3 subs started to show and despite some valiant efforts in both midfield and defence we conceded 3 more.
Reflecting on the game you have to give credit to the 5’s on this occasion we’re by far the stronger team. Having said that by our standards from last season it was a strong performance and no one had a bad game, we played well as a team we encouraged throughout and remained positive. Mike and James played well together and have the making of a good central defensive partnership. Aaron looks extremely sharp up front along with Tom who is adjusting well from football to hockey, I look forward to seeing him develop hopefully in the 6’s alongside Aaron.
The engine room of midfield couldn’t have run anymore and Alasdair continues to play some great hockey at left defence. Very pleased with everyone yesterday great effort by all. This season the standard of opposition will be much higher and we will have some equally tough games to play starting next week away to Bedford 1pm.
