The pain...not just the narrow 5:4 loss, but my knee... (well that's enough of that!)
The Hertford V's demonstrated tremendous resilience in a game where we were twice 2 goals behind.
We actually led from very early on with Matt Horsley finishing off a superb fluid passing move down the right hand side.
Unfortunately, it appeared that the few times Royston attacked they managed to score - quickly going 3:1 up in the first half. But Hertford countered with two great goals in the first half to go in level at half time.
The second half Hertford dominated, again Royston with only sparse attacks managed to gran 2 more goals. However, another great passing move led to a penalty flick brilliantly dispatched by Tim Albery. We did have chances, but unfortunately finished the game the wrong side of a 5:4 scoreline
Big shout outs to Matt Horsley who netted a hat-trick; Jon Green who joined us & created havoc in the Royston defense; Rian for a great game out of position helping at left back; Jack Timms as ever a solid defensive performance.
All the team did well, at our best was watching Tim marshaling the midfield; Noah, Ewen & Josh combining well & Matt helping to put the ball in the goal (at last a short corner goal!!!!)
Two players close to getting Man of the match - (Matt & Rian)...ultimately Rian won our - well done!!
The great news is the heads never went down & we kept creating chances - as we progress this season we will get even more threatening to play against.
So we are in 5th place...not bad; big game next week against second place Potters Bar (though they have played one more game than us)
Well done all
