A performance where we dominated the play, deserved more goals, but were relieved to survive with a single goal victory.
Hertford had most of the possession, however Rickmansworth did look dangerous on the break.
Thanks to Josh Over who, in the second half made a great run into the D & slotted it over the keeper - a great goal. Ewen also had a great strike, unfortunately disallowed as it went a bit high.
Hertford attacked wave after wave - however, we made it hard for ourselves in a couple of areas: Firstly, the Rickmansworth defence played very deep, so we had far more time in the middle of the pitch to play the ball around & stretch them - perhaps we were a little too direct, this played into their hands. Secondly, in the last 3rd of the game, Rickmansworth pushed their attackers deep into our half - we lost sight of them a few times at the back when we were attacking & left them available for quick breaks when our own attacks broke down; we were fortunate not to concede a couple. When we attack with such a slim advantage, it's important we keep some structure.
Lecture over.....some great passing again; each week the opposition & the umpires are complimenting us on our passing game- let's remember we are more dangerous when we stick to our roles & pass.
More training to be had on short corners - we will sort it out soon!
A couple of mentions in addition to Josh & Ewen; both Jack & Rob played a strong game at the back & I thought Archie was excellent with both his positional play & his passing contribution. Thanks also to Tom for stepping in as keeper (just glad he stayed on the pitch!)
Well done team - a deserved victory- looking forward to keeping our renewed winning streak going
