The M5s were well matched against Bedford 5s, their Development Team. We started brightly, with good passing and moving becoming our trademark in our first games of the season. Ewen and Noah upfront worked hard to stretch the Bedford defence, with Will, Rian and Aodhan keeping wide as we attacked. I am a bit hazy on the goals - bearing in mind I couldn't see Will Ross 5m in front of me, it is a bit of an ask to expect me to see up to the other end of the pitch! What I do know was the goal came after a neat passing interchange that freed up Ewen to score. We had a fair bit of defending to do as Bedford pressed forward. Ed and Jack worked hard to reduce the danger, ably supported by a couple of smart saves from Lanky in goal.
Two more goals followed in the third quarter, with Ewen again getting on the end of good passing moves to score. We soaked up pressure as Bedford nicked one back, and an excellent goal line clearance by Ed made sure the final 10 minutes weren't too exciting for us.
A great team performance against a decent team. As well as Ewen's hatrick, Josh had a cracking game in midfield along side the excellent Tim. Happy days....the skipper will have to work hard to be picked for next week......
Thanks to Dorian for writing the above & taking the 5's to a win on the first game of the season!!!!
