Hertford 5s 4-0 Letchworth 5s

This weekend saw the 5s face a familiar Letchworth side, having faced off against the much unchanged side 2 seasons ago. However this time around the 5s were much changed, and it showed on the pitch.
Hertford got off the mark after 11 minutes, with Josh slamming home into the bottom left from a now well rehearsed short corner routine. This opened the flood gates and the 5s scored 2 more almost identical goals in the following 9 minutes - Darren slipping the ball to the left hand post not once, but twice (I think Darren has given up shooting) for VC Ben to confidently bury the ball home for his brilliant brace.
Despite skipper Josh taking an unfortunately placed injury within the first 15 minutes and subsequently forgetting how to play hockey, the team in red dominated possession and shifted the ball around smoothly across the wide Queenswood pitch.
The second half was played at a much slower pace, but Hertford continued to recycle the ball well and the back line had plenty of time on the ball (I don't think Tony touched the ball as much in the entirety of last season as he did in this game!).
Our 4th came from some brilliant solo work from midfield maestro Jasper, who beat his man on the far edge of the D before crossing for Darren to finish into an open goal for his 2nd of the season (I think he's scored about 38 for the 7s though).
Another great team performance across the whole squad, everyone working hard and positioning well. Special mentions go to: Tom for an energetic and effective 5s debut; Lee for providing drive forward from the backline; Tim for constantly finding space and stretching the Letchworth defence; but MoM has to go to Benji, who terrified their right back the entire game and took his two goals very well. Another big shout out to Dorian, who gave up his game on pitch in order to umpire - hugely appreciated by all, and hopefully we'll have you on pitch for the 5s eventually!
Next week takes us away to a strong looking Bedford side - bring it on!
