Not a great game this week, St Albans didn't look a bit like promotion contenders but we were were badly off colour ourselves and didn't take advantage.
Half of us hadn't played since November and it showed, poor ball control and poor passing letting us down time after time. Some reasonably tight defence, dreadful St Albans finishing and three or four excellent saves from Geoff kept us in touch, but we couldn't keep up any sustained periods of possession until the last quater. The two goals, one in each half, were either flukey or brilliant, lifting the game from a general level of mediocrity, but even St A's had little to offer apart from long overhead balls which didn't trouble us much. In the final quarter we got things together a bit and created a couple of clear chances and some much better ball control, but with Tor missing and Matt and Ryan strugling with injury as the game went on, the late recovery didn't come this time. Notably, the best moves came the few times we got the ball out wide in the last quarter of the pitch.
Mentions in despatches for Mark and Arjun for giving us some drive in midfield, and a very tidy shift at right back from Rob Davies. MotM goes to Geoff Hopkin in goal again.
Let's put this behind us and get back to doing the basics better next week.
