Hertford M4's 1 Potters Bar M3's 2

Yesterday’s game against Potters Bar 3s was our best performance of the season so far, playing a team 2nd in the league 14 points above us, you would never have known that watching from the side. It’s testament to improvement shown by us as a team each game we play and to the fact that we can compete in this league.

We set up as in the previous 2 games with a 5 man midfield. This made it hard for P B to break us down and to come in at half time 0-0 having absorbed a lot of pressure was better than I had anticipated prior to the the start, and it gave us a boost and belief for the second half.
P B scored a goal soon after the re start, a good individual effort that didn’t give Andy much chance. We went a second goal down 10 minutes later a shot across the D defecting in off the post. Despite being under pressure when we did break forward we always looked dangerous with the trio of Rohan, Iain and James leading the charge. Our goal came from some good pressure and a cross across the D neatly put away by Iain.
The defensive trio of Tony, Sam and Dave remained solid throughout, underpinned by some good goal keeping from Andy. But one of the best aspects of the game was the tremendous work rate from the midfield, in recent weeks we have been caught out with unmarked players running though the midfield, that didn’t happen yesterday and it was great to see the forwards working back when necessary to mark up on the edge of the D.
