Tough game against a good Harpenden side yesterday, it’s a standard we are going to come up against quite often this season. 2-0 down at half time we were very much still in the game, and a fast break forward resulting in a lovely pass from Nick for James to deftly put past the goal keeper to get one back. For the next 15 minutes or so we were on top and had them on the back foot, another goal at that point could have changed the game.
As it was Harpenden got a 3rd and then we had our work cut out for the remainder of the game.
3 of their goals came from a well worked short corner routine and a 4th as a result of a short. Towards the end only having 11 players took its toll as the midfield inevitably started to tire. Despite the loss there were a lot of positives to take from the game.
We played a different formation and it looked good we kept our shape fairly well and I cannot fault effort by everyone. Sam had a great game in defence, Luke made many long runs up and down the wing, and Hugo covered a lot of ground in a position not familiar to him, Tony H made some good saves to keep us in the game for a long time.
