A 3:1 loss was our heaviest defeat of the season so far. We played a very strong Potters Bar side with two or three good players that put us under pressure particularly in the first half. This made it difficult for us to break out from defence and get the ball to the forward players in order to take advantage of a fairly pedestrian PB defence.
Sometimes you can only play as well as the opposition let’s you but we didn’t help ourselves by trying the long long ball to often and we got drawn into a narrow game rather than keeping our width.
In the second half we had a better performance putting PB under more pressure and had more short corners resulting in a well worked goal scored by Graham on his return from injury.
This was by no means a poor performance from us indeed we created some good chances, but we have become used to taking control of games and have had a good first half to the season, but serves as a timely reminder that we are in a very competitive league with not much to choose from between most of the teams.
Close for MOM this week but Rob gets it for some particularly fine saves to prevent the game being taken completely away from us.
It’s not all negative as mentioned above, we created some good chances and on another day with a bit of luck and more clinical finishing it would have totally changed the game and forced PB onto the back foot.
