Our first outing to the Ridgeway Academy saw us up against St Albans 8s. Due to availability we had lost some to the 3s and gained some from the 6s.
For the first 5 to 10 minutes we looked fairly well in control but St Albans started to pull us out of shape particularly in the midfield and a break down their left saw us a goal down. You could feel the frustration running through the team but despite this we worked hard and created some good chances leading to a good strike from Mark to see us go in at half time 1:1.
We moved a few people round at half time and from the start of the second half held a much better shape and started to take better control of the game, James Berry making a welcome return to the team scoring the second following some fast play and lifting the ball past the keeper, James then went to score his second following a cross from Jasper who ran hard all through the game and linked up well with Adam who continually frustrated the St Albans defence. Our increased pressure showed in the second half with more short corners, Mark scoring his second with a lovely strike from the edge of the D and Ian following up well onto a ball deflected from a defender to make that a goal a game.
Special mentions to Jared who held the ball up well and give us a target to release pressure from defence. The defence of Graham, Tony and Andy dealt well with the pressure later on when St Albans pressed in the latter stages, and as always great support from Tony H who keeps us organised from Goal. Close call for MOM but Adam just edged it from James. But for me it was a great team effort well done
