We started solidly against a well organised Royston team, and were soon moving the ball around the pitch smartly. We began to hold territorial advantage but Royston were surprisingly quick on the break. Doug opened the scoring with a smart deflection from a powerful hit from Howie. Royston bounced straight back with a quick break to equalise. Thankfullly our pressure paid off with Luke Rawlinson finishing very calmly, slotting the ball past their keeper. We added a third at the stroke of half time when Dorian lashed the ball home from 2 inches following a short corner. Royston can feel a little unlucky, hitting the post twice and having an off day with their short corners. Despite losing Howie to injury, we played some good hockey, including our best move of the season with the defence clearing the ball out wide to Thomas following a short corner, he passed the ball quickly up the field and Luke and Ciaran exchanged passes to pull their defence apart and Ciaran slotted the ball home. Luke and Ciaran repeated the move with Luke drawing the keeper to him before passing the ball to Ciaran who scored into an open goal. A good win, some good play but some more work to tighten up the defence would be good.
