The Beautiful Game

After a poor performance last week, we traveled to Blueharts to find that their old pitch with sand dunes had been replaced with a fantastic new surface. With no sandcastles to distract us, we set out our stall right from the start. Tim, Doug and Howie controlled the middle of the pitch and the younger players displayed much better position sense, and the movement off the ball was much improved. I can't remember the order of goals - perhaps Tim got the first with a sharp shot in the D, and two more followed when we were awarded flicks for shots on goal striking limbs on the way to goal. Howie buried the first flick and Ciaran placed the second perfectly so we went in 3-0 up at halftime. Blueharts had some handy players up front and we felt threatened when they had the ball but Max and Sam put in strong performances to keep the threat at bay. The first 10 minutes of the second half were crucial and we got a breakaway goal. Two more followed and we ran out 6-0 winners. Archie scored again this week, and Harry - giving a new stick its first outing scored two with his second being the pick of the goals with a skilful finish.
A strong performance this week with much better movement and held our shape well to keep on the front foot. We also worked very hard for the full 70 minutes. The opposition captain said it was the structure of our team play that was the difference - that's the feedback we want to hear!
