England Hockey Tier 1 Supra League Competition

Hertford U14 Girls achieved another notable first for the club with a runners-up medal at the Tier 1 England Hockey Nationals Finals.

The girls have had another wonderful season, winning all their matches in the two group stages with wins against Cambridge City, Sudbury, Cambridge Juniors and Bury St Edmunds in their East Area Pool, and then moved onto the next pool stage and won all games against Cambridge City, Bury St Edmunds, Beeston, Surbiton Eagles and Wimbledon and qualifying for Finals Day in Nottingham with a 100%-win ratio.

This was a second successive finals day appearance for the Lionesses at the Supra League Finals at National Hockey Centre in Nottingham, and for some players a third year at Finals weekend.

First up on Sunday was a nail-bitingly tense match against Knole Park that ended in a 0-0 draw with both sides coming agonisingly close, with some good saves by both keepers keeping it scoreless

Next match saw the Lionesses dominate Team Bath, with an elegant Florrie Pidduck hat-trick bringing a 3-1 win.

Hertford topped their pool by beating Repton 2-0; Philippa Grant coolly slotted in the opener from Olivia Holme's powerful cross, then super-sub-Daisy Fox netted a beautiful reverse-stick strike.

The Lionesses then met a formidable Surbiton side in the gold-medal match. Hertford started with some probing attacks, but Surbiton scored on the counterattack and then a brace of quick goals left the exhausted Lionesses with an uphill battle in the heat. Surbiton scored again in the 2nd half and were worthy winners.

Team: Isabelle Jones, Scarlett Blakeney-Edwards, Nancy French, Cara Nolan, Sienna Outtrim, Liv Holme, Florrie Pidduck, Zara Ferns, Annabelle Coupes, Evie Chidgey, Charlotte Pettit, Amber Smith, Phillippa Grant, Daisy Fox and Elise Heard
