With a Double Victory over East London

Saturday East Div 3S League

Hertford were made to work hard to keep their unbeaten streak against a fired up East London 3’s on Saturday, coming back from 2-1 to take the three points with a 4-2 win.

Going into this match, both teams had yet to lose a game and had conceded only 3 goals. Hertford were under pressure from the start with East London making an early breakthrough from a deflected penalty corner. Hertford got back on level terms through Molly Pallett before conceding their first goal from open play this season to go into the break 2-1 down.

After a rousing team talk from coach Dickie Rawlinson, Hertford came out determined to overturn the deficit. Mid way through the half Hertford stepped up a gear, a flurry of goals in less than 10 minutes turned the game around. A lovely link up between Maddie Stewart and Lotty Hobson saw Hobson round the keeper to bring the game back level, Evie Reynolds then edged Hertford ahead against a stunned East London side before Pallett sealed the points with her second goal of the game.

The win sees Hertford maintain their position at the top of the table, they head to second placed Wapping this weekend.

Sunday EH Tier 3 Championship
Twenty four hours later saw Hertford making their debut in the England Hockey knockout competition. Drawn against another East London side (5s), Hertford claimed their place in the second round with an emphatic 5-0 win.

The first goal took a while to come, patient play and disciplined passing eventually created space to allow Sophie Rawlinson to open the scoring, rifling a shot in from the top of the circle. Niamh Hartnett found the back of the net after a lovely passage of play. East London couldn’t cope with the pace of the Hertford side, breaking once again up the pitch for Emily Parry to slot home for Hertfords third.

Hertford had the perfect start to the second half, Emily Butler scoring straight from the restart. East Londons few attacks into the Hertford half were dealt with by the defence, Keeper Lianne Warnell made a diving save from a rare East London shot to keep the hosts clean sheet before Molly Pallett scored her third of the weekend to wrap up victory.

The second round will be played on Saturday 14 December – draw hasn’t been made yet
