Youth Development team travel to Sandy for their toughest game yet

Hertford starting with 10, had a tough initial start to the game, where Shefford & Sandy 4ths with a player advantage and a few strong experienced players resulted in a well matched game.

Thankfully after 10 minutes after a good “warm up” Hertford 5ths benefited by new legs arriving. After a number of good attacks with Hertford running at their solid defence, and moving the ball around well, Jules Hawkins tapped in after 16 minutes.

Hertford forwards continued to put the pressure on with Emily Palmer and Molly Hobson running into space and linking well with Leah Hawkins playing “high” up field. Unfortunately as a group not able to convert some nice moves.

On the 28th minute after continued pressure, a nice strike from Jules at the back of D resulted in the second goal, and allowed Hertford to go into the half time break 2-0 up.

A rousing team talk at half time (+ lots of Jelly babies as our secret weapon) resulted in Hertford playing some nice hockey in the 2nd half.

Hannah Wilson Gemma Moses and Maddy Durbin at the back supported by Claire Rollins played very well to “neutralise” the attacking forays of Shefford and Sandy.

The highlight of the 2nd half, and the first time Tina Hills had touched the ball in 2 games was a fantastic full length save that denied Shefford & Sandy a goal and which would have been the first conceded this season, and may well have changed the course of the game.

Hertford kept up the offensive pressure, despite numerous stick tackles (Mainly from Sandy) that eventually resulted in a green card for one of their stronger ladies.

With a player advantage, Hertford's Lizzy Moore and the forwards continued to created opportunities around and within the D, this led to a number of short corners that Hertford unfortunately failed to convert, the closest a great effort by Leah Hawkins at the back post went just wide (see picture).

Eventually after another strong attack Molly Hobson swept in the 59th minute to make the score 3-0, that ended up the final score and the 6th consecutive (and hardest) win for the fast developing team.
