Rather against the run of play, a stunning solo effort from Ian Rawlinson gave us a first half lead against a very solid veteran Letchworth side. We weren’t at our sharpest, too much running into tackles and trying to hit passes through our opponents, not enough width, but we were working hard in defence, drifting effectively and making our luck, and just about coping with the demands of a 16 man substitution rota.
They obviously got a much better half time talk than I gave. Their finishing stepped up several levels and they were 2 – 1 up before we know what had hit us. We steadied the ship, and when the next goal went their way we still had the energy for a 10 minute purple patch that produced 3 great chances…but frustratingly we couldn’t finish any of them. We fell apart in the last 10 minutes, leaving the final scoreline rather harsh. We all had some good moments, most of us had some bad ones as well, if we can play at the top end of our range more consistently, we’ll get results. Ian gets MoTM for that amazing goal.
Thanks to Clive for some great work in goal, to midfield dynamo George Holmes on his very welcome return to the club, and to Tom for an excellent lunch
