Against an understrength Rickmansworth team, Hertford were comfortably in control most of the game, and it was nice to have a bit more time to play proper moves. Their solid defence and a couple of very gifted young forwards made sure we had to work hard all the way. Chris Duncan (2) and Chris Dean got the goals, but we saw impressive work from Kash, some good fluid midfield play from Dave, Tom and Ewan, and disciplined defending, especially from Richard who spent a long afternoon keeping their lively goal-hanger quiet. Good use of width much of the game, some confident cross field play at the back, and we (usually) took our hits quickly and found the gaps before the opposition could shut us down.
Thanks to John for stepping up to umpire at the last minute, and to Steve and Liz for teas.
We’ll have to work harder and faster at Luton, but basically we need the same recipe next week.
