A thrilling fightback from 4 - 0 down, but not quite enough to get a point out of our first league game. We has chances in the first half with a couple of crosses scorching across an open goal and Kash drawing a good save from their keeper, but some soft defending allowed Southgate to punch through our centre time after time and we were thee down at half time despite Peter's heroics at centre back.
Ther second half was brighter, and despite conceding a 4th we began to haul our way back. Kash picked up a cross from the right and struck his debut goal, but Southgate hit straight back with their 5th. A fluffed back stick strike from Graham looked to be drifting harmlessly over the by-line at the corner of the D but as Southgate stood and watched Daryl pounced and fired home from an impossible angle. Daryl added another, deflecting in an angled ball from the right, but the clock had nearly run out when we swept the length of the pitch one last time, the keeper hesitated in clearing a harmless cross and then luckily played my head rather than the ball as I dived full length to squeeze the ball over the line.
Man of the match goes to Peter again, but gold stars to Daryl and Kash up front and a good hard effort all round. Thanks to Jason Nunns on loan from the 4s for a week for some welcome midfield pace an penetration, and a welcome appearance from Adam Sutherland. All round still technically rusty and a bit short of pace and confidence, but we have shown we can score goals, and we keep trying to do the right things. There is much more to look forward to this year.
Thanks to Clive and Nick for very tasty refreshments, and farewell and good luck to Peter and Adam as they resume their studies at Guildford and York.
