One of those games nobody deserves to win, but we’ll take the points. Evenly matched, tense, often exciting but mostly short on quality from both sides.
We had a heavy preponderance of veteran fullbacks, Clive and I took our turns in midfield / attack this week, Daryl picked up an early injury so not surprisingly we found ourselves low on pace and rarely managed any prolonged spells of control or threat. There were a few neat combinations and some good runs from Ian, but real chances were few and far between. Both sides looked likeliest to score from short corners, and we can take some satisfaction from a disciplined defensive performance backed up with some smart saves from Andy Smith. Andy Benson’s defensive work in the second half gets him man of the match. With 65 minutes gone Rickmansworth fluffed a 16 years clearance, Graham White’s interception was flicked on to Ian who went round the keeper for the only goal. That summed the game up really.
