We were one of the few teams privileged to get a game in Saturday, though some might think that an odd choice of words as huddled in the dugout on a wet, bitter cold afternoon at De Havilland. Despite fielding one of our strongest sides, with a full bench to manage we never found much fluency and spent most of the game on the defensive and conceded with frustrating regularity, two from short corners. Andy Smith made a string of good saves and was probably glad he was kept active as he reacclimatised to the English weather after three weeks in Oz and Dubai, but MotM goes to John Andrews for his succession of perfectly timed last ditch tackles on breakaway attackers.
We had our moments going forward, mostly on the break with Chris Dean, Aodham and Daryl all getting behind the defenders but unable to beat the keeper, whilst Graham White drew a good save from our only short corner. Jon Durbin and Ewan opened them up nicely down the right a few of times, and we occasionally found some prolonged passing combinations on the left. Aodhan got closest, committing the keeper after a good string of passes, but just unable to steer the rebound the right side of the post.
Disappointing end to the autumn term, but at least we got a game.....
