Hertford U14 Girls secure second win on the bounce

Hertford U14 Girls had another impressive team performance to run out 4-3 winners away to Amersham & Chalfont in the Home Counties Girls League. The team started a little nervous but after 5 minutes the team started to find their feet and impose themselves on the opposition by dominating the play in midfield. Hertford started to press their defence with a few chances on goal going wide, then after 15 minutes Molly Hobson finished clinically from the stop of the D with a sweep shot into the roof of the net. However, the lead was short lived as Amersham equalised after 5 minutes, against the run of play. Just before halftime Ella Sherring then had a mishap with her stick and ended up spending a couple of minutes off the pitch!

The team started the second half much the stronger side running in 3 goals in fairly quick succession, with Ella making up for her earlier indiscretion with a goal and Molly Hobson putting away another two to get her hatrick. Lucy Heald led the line well and was denied on a number of occasions by the keeper or the ball rolling the wrong side of the post. Unfortunately, the side conceded a couple of very late goals but these should not diminish what was a very good team performance. Hannah Wilson was voted the Hertford player of the match by Amersham and rightly Hertford voted their keeper as their player of the match as she made a string of fine saves. Hertford U14 girls would like to thank Angharrad for playing in goal today and putting in a fine performance after racing over from the county tournament at Hertford.

We also had two players running out for the first time for the XI a side team, Niamh Hartnett and Evie Reynolds, both made excellent contributions to the team and with 5 or 6 players leaving at the end of the season they demonstrated the depth of talent at the club. Whilst everyone had a good game today, just a couple of further mentions. Holly Mayes had another great game in midfield breaking up and disrupting play and then releasing the ball quickly and to Cerys Evans for her exceptional work rate in the second half and getting stuck in.

Finally, with only one more league game it would be great if we could finish off with one more win and seal third place in the league. Well done all of you today, great work rate and great team spirit.
