Hertford faced a very strong Saffron Walden U14 team. The defence led by Megan Langley and Lulu Sutton worked hard to hold the Saffron Walden forwards at bay with Olivia Voaden kept extremely busy parrying one shot after another. Unfortunately, Hertford were never allowed to settle with the midfield being closed down quickly. At half time Hertford were 4-0 down and had only managed to scrape into the oppositions half on a handful of occasions. However, the second half Saffron Walden found a much tougher and resilient side. The defence and midfield all stepped up a gear and started to work the ball from deep and retain more possession. The team started to play with more composure despite the whistle running against them. Hertford were now pushing for goals with some good work from Ella, Holly and Sophia in midfield and good runs from Lucy Heald and Cerys Evans up front. Finally, Hertford worked a goal from a short corner finished off by Emily Palmer.
Overall, this was a ferocious encounter with balls flying at pace, Megan and Lulu have the bruises to show for it possibly a few others as well! The girls fought back very well in the second half showing true grit and it should have been 1-1 in the second half, had it not been for a goal that should have been disallowed for dangerous play. Good to see the girls remained disciplined, shame the coach could not quite keep his cool on the side-line.......
