Match Report - Girls U10s, Essex League Fixture on Oct 1st
Fantastic first outing in Essex League for Hertford Girls U10s!
The Hertford Girls U10s 'A' Team travelled to Chelmsford today to compete in their first ever Essex League fixture. We were a bit unsure about what to expect with some big hitters such as Old Loughts and Chelmsford in the league, but we did not need to be concerned! We played 5 matches, scored 11 goals, and only conceded 2. With 3 good wins, a draw and a narrow loss, the girls showed they are more than able to hold their own in this competitive 'A' Teams Only league.
The girls got off to a flying start thumping Saffron Walden 6-0. Goals were shared beaten Martha K, Alice L and Ella C. Head Coach, Nick Evans told the girls not to get too carried away as other matches would be harder!
In the next match, we played Blue Hornets from Felsted, a team we had already beaten last week in a friendly. This was a closer affair but Hertford dominated throughout. Blue Hornets scored with a breakaway goal levelling the score at 1:1, but Hertford prevailed with Ella C scoring a well worked winner to end the match 2-1.
Then what we expected to be our biggest test - Old Loughts! We lost the game 0-1, but it should have at least been a draw with Hertford enjoying most of the play, but just not quite managing to find the net.
Straight away, the girls faced Bishops Stortford without having time to really catch breath. this is where 'Bad Dad' embarrassed himself shouting loudly at my own daughter for not paying attention and missing a great pass! Evie went on to 'redeem herself' by opening the scoring with an accurate shot from edge of the 'D' and told me off afterwards! The girls went on to win the match comfortably 3-0. I must also call out Charlotte H, who scored her first ever goal with a great hit. Mum was absolutely ecstatic on the touch line, lovely to see the look on Charlotte's face!
The final match of the day saw us face Chelmsford. This was our toughest match and the girls started to look a little bit tired. They fought for every ball, and after a closely matched game against a very good passing team, the match ending 0-0.
All of the girls played extremely well, from Eva P in GK, Erin E, Phoebe S tenacious in defence, Alice L, Martha K and Charlotte H dominant in midfield and attacking threat from Evie M, Ella C and Cate A. For the first competitive fixture of the season this bodes extremely well for the rest of the season. Full squad listed below:-

Next week the Hertfordshire League starts, so great experience under their belts. Well done to all the girls for a fantastic performance and great team spirit!!
