As Hertford Team's Bring Home 3 Medals

HERTFORD Hockey Club’s youth section enjoyed success at the Brentwood Indoor tournament.

Six youth teams from Hertford recently competed in the premier Indoor Youth Hockey tournament in East England.

The Brentwood tournament brings together some of the best hockey clubs in the region, including some regular Hertford opponents and teams from further afield including Canterbury, Ipswich and Reading.

After playing nearly 50 games between them, the Hertford teams brought home three medals – the U14 boys won silver, while the U12 and U10 girls picked up bronze.

There was much anticipation for Hertford’s promising U10 girls team as they took to the hockey field.

They won four of their six games and finished in third place, fully deserving their bronze medals.

The U10 boys battled tenaciously, winning two of their matches to finish in sixth position, with Ronan Hawes excelling.

The U12 girls won their pool matches by beating Canterbury and Chelmsford, but couldn’t quite maintain that high standard to finish third overall and collecting bronze medals.

The U12 boys, captained by Will Ross, found the going tough and were unlucky to lose some tight matches. However, they came good to win their final match to finish in eighth place.

The U14 girls, captained by Laura Sharman found the going challenging.

Their scores belied their efforts and they come unlucky to come away ninth overall.

The final session was the turn of the U14 b and this well-drilled team took on Saffron Walden, Chelmsford, Old Loughtonians and Ipswich to win their pool.

This set them up for a meeting with their arch rivals from Braintree, the Blue Hornets.

Despite the Hertford boys playing good hockey, Blue Hornets were still able to sting where it hurt and left Hertford as clear runner-ups in a 3-0 defeat, but happy to be bring home silver medals.

Overall, nearly 60 Hertford players and six coaches had represented their club with pride as the teams collected medals.
