Hertford 3s third loss in a row

After some last minute changes, and some nerves following last season's fixture, we were ready to field a full team against our local rivals.

With first pushback, we started the game strongly. Some intricate play between Georgie, Izzy and Becca pushed them onto the back foot, however, we were unlucky not to score off this.

After the first 15 minutes, Stevenage seemed to wake up and take control of the game. Emily provided pressure on the left allowing us to slow down their attack from the right and leaving Bev to sweep up their wayward balls. Lucie meanwhile provided cover for any balls being crossed to the top of the D. Despite this, Stevenage managed to work their way into the D and score a very good goal off a short.

1-0 down, Hertford continued to work hard. Helen and Jo were relentless with their running in the middle of the pitch and covering off any wayward Stevenage attackers who fancied a crack at goal. In spite of this, Stevenage got a quick second goal and Hertford went in at half time 2-0 down.

After half time, Hertford went out fighting and determined to turn the match around, but Stevenage were overpowering and spent most of the time in Hertford's own 23. Superb defending from Katie, Helen, Alice and Bev meant that Stevenage were kept from scoring for a long while in the second half.

An unfortunate foot on the line from a hit off a short corner lead to Stevenage being awarded a penalty flick. Eleanor did so well to get a touch to it on her stick side, but the shot was just too good and lead to Stevenage getting their third goal.

Although Hertford never gave up, and there were some later play in the D, there was just not enough time to convert this into their own goal.

Overall, it was a great team performance with Georgie and Emily being awarded joint man of the match.
