Nice win to start the 2nd half of the season :-)

Well not a bad start to the 2nd half of the season......and Karen Rock can now safely say she is not our bad luck token ;-)

The ladies were not used to being last on at our home pitch and struggled to get the energy up for the first game back. However, the first half was beautiful hockey - would never think we had been eating all the mince pies and downing as much prosecco as humanly possible for the last 2 weeks! Most amazing and memorable part of the game was the goal that followed a broxbourne short corner.....yes a Broxbourne short corner!!! Hertford defence were hard out and cleared the ball before Broxbourne even had a chance to attempt a shot on goal - nicely picked up by the midfield and with a few texbook passes up the pitch the forwards were in the D within seconds and with one strike on goal by Hannah the score was 1-0 :-) This at least took a little pressure of the defence who were left defending more than their allocated players on many occasions! This was closely followed a 2nd goal by Ella which was created from a break with Izzie and Hannah passing to each other up the pitch - another textbook hockey moment!

2nd half not so good.....thanks Steve Bailes for pointing that out ;-) The team were beginning to tire and this showed in the lack of defence, poor passes and general sluggishness. But we still fought on and Hannah managed to sneak in a 3rd and final goal. Unfortunately due to a mad scramble in the D to defend a goal from Broxbourne secret weapon Meg Harries, a ball flicked out from in front of the goal by Diane was then rebounded of Jo's stick, which then deflected off Diane's foot and when in the goal in the last quarter - was laughable really! Swear I need to get some smaller shoes with the amount of 'feet' I got in that game! All in a good start but some work to do if we are to maintain our position in the table - 4th joint with Chiltern.

Overall well done ladies, and the brilliance of each member was reflected in nearly all of the team getting at least 1 vote for MOm. An even bigger well done to Sarah Merryweather from the 4s who had a terrific game and rightly so was our man of the match - her first ever!
