Another tough week for all the Captains trying to find 11 players for the teams. But a big thanks to the Ladies 4 who after already providing 3 players (Maya, Evie and Karen R), managed to field another 5 (Amanda, Lily, Clara, Vicky and Jessie) following the cancellation of their game.
So what can I say......I am beaming! The two teams gelled together and worked as one team from the whistle! Poor Letchworth didn't know what had hit them with Hertford dominating the pitch with some text book passing and game play up to the D supported with a solid defence on the occasional counter attack. Half time and the score remained 0-0 despite numerous shots on goal by Karen Rock :-( Following the obligatory half time pep talk and a telling off to both teams for too many stick tackles from the Hertford umpires, we went back out fighting fueled by Jelly Babies! And the sugar rush paid off with some nifty team work by the forwards resulting in the goalie coming off the line and moving towards the winger allowing Sophie to get the rebound and strike it in the back of the goal - yayyyyyyyyyyyyy! Obviously the elbow to the face in the 1st half gave Sophie all the incentive she needed :-) Final word from the Umpire 'it should have been at least 5-0!'....and I have to agree, but happy to take a 1-0 win....a win is a win!
Fantastic play all round, and a great thanks to Grant Lear and my trusty sidekick Chris Shattock for managing the subs and providing some well needed hints and tips from the sideline. Man of the match was a close one with Sophie narrowly pipping Lily to the post with 4 votes to 3. Well done Sophie!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
Thank you ladies for a fantastic first game of the season - I will now be celebrating with a nice glass of wine! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and don't forget to update Pitchero for next week xx
PS It was a brilliant team game to watch, so much passing, supporting each other, running back when needed - an all team performance - Chris S
