The first competitive friendly for the Academy side resulted in a 3-1 loss to a decent Royston side, but the boys were by no means disgraced.
Royston were quick out of the blocks and took an early level as we struggled a little with their early pace coming forward, but as the half drew on the boys grew and chances were created with Ewen Macpherson causing the Royston back line a lot of problems and from a short corner Hertford drew level through El Presidente Tim Albery. Despite seeming controlling the game, Royston scored too very well worked goals on the break and led 3-1 at half time.
The second half was far more even with Hertford creating the better opportunities and they we were unlucky not to pull a goal back with both Ian and Ewen Macpherson going close.
It was a very encouraging performance, with the League season a couple of weeks away and when you consider that we had a number of players under 14 and there were excellent performances across the pitch by many of the boys.
