Onward and upwards
Hertford continue to move up the table this week with a comfortable 5-1 over Berkhamsted & Hemel.
Following a heavy frost over night, the pitch was slick for the ladies match v B&H. Hertford made use of this straight away, Molly Pallett scoring after just five minutes from some speedy build up play giving her space to move through the B&H defence and convert.
The goal boosted Hertford’s confidence and more seamless passing ensued, giving multiple opportunities for Lizzie Moore and Leah Wilkerson who both came close to scoring.
The hard work paid off when in the 12th minute Lizzie’s speed carried the ball down the left wing. The ball was perfectly delivered it to Leah, who with a trade mark spin lost the defender and tee’d up a simple tap in for Helen Owen.
At 2-0 down B&H came back fighting and their persistence showed when they snatched a goal from open play on 30mins. B&H continued to apply pressure and tested Hertford’s defence, Teresa Bartram literally putting her body on the line to prevent B&H from equalising.
The second half showed more determination from Hertford, man of the match Lizzie Moore made some great runs down the wings, one which released the ball to Molly Hobson who executed the perfect reverse stick shot to make it 3-1.
B&H refused to give up, and threw more players forward. Bevlyn DeAgostini was resolute in defence, so the team were gutted when a brave tackle lead to her breaking her finger and the end of her match.
Determined to finish the game off for Bev, Molly Hobson took an opportunity at the top of D, spinning away from her marker and slamming the ball into the bottom corner. Molly’s taste for goal did not end there, and she completed her hat trick with a simple tap in from a Becki Quiddington sweep into the D to make the final score 5-1.
Credit to B&H who showed great sportsmanship and were a pleasure to play against.
