Ladies 1 Denied by Stevenage

The Ladies 1s game was a bit 'will they, won't they' for the whole day.... a frustrating score line (3-2 to Stevenage) that didn't reflect the quality of play. There were several pb's for the team, better intensity, better communication, better linking up and better use of penalty corners, plenty to build on for the next game.

Hertford started the game strongly, easily the equals of the opposition, although losing Bevlyn DeAgostini to a green card gave their play maker an opportunity to score the first goal. Rather than letting their heads drop, Hertford came back strongly, taking free hits quickly, culminating in a great goal by Molly Hobson. A single handed run down the left wing by Molly Pallett, a precision pass to Molly H who finished from a tight angle.

Next followed a textbook penalty corner by Hertford - Mel Evans the injector, Liz Berry with the stop and slip to Molly Pallett. The sweep went straight to Molly H for a super deflection. Hertford ended the first half in front.

The second half started with the same momentum. More attacks on the Stevenage goal lead to an early penalty flick being awarded. Molly Hobson bravely stepped forward to complete her hat-trick, only to be denied by a superb save from the Stevenage keeper. Stevenage retaliated and somewhat against the run of play, won a penalty flick at the opposite end of the pitch. Lianne Warnell dived the right way, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Stevenage from drawing level.

Hertford kept up the pressure searching for the win, and looked dangerous in the D but despite valiant defending by Nicola Estherby, Laura Sharman Basil Wilkins and Hannah Brown, they could not prevent a last minutes penalty corner, that Stevenage made a good job of scoring.
