The scoreline certainly does not reflect the game that was played on a blustery afternoon in Sandy.
Hertford started well, with some strong runs down the right wing by Helen Owen giving both Leah Wilkerson and Liz Berry chances to convert early on. Against the run of play, Shefford scored from open play by overloading the Hertford defence - a goal that changed the match. Hertford's heads went down, and Shefford were able to score two more in quick succession, leaving them 3-0 down at half time.
The second half was a different game, Hertford battled harder, tackles were won in midfield by Basil Wilkins, Clare Hawes and Mel Evans and they started to build a bit of momentum. Molly Pallett gave Hertford a glimmer of hope by slotting the ball into the bottom corner after a solo run into the D.
The goal rattled Shefford, who went on the attack, testing the Hertford defence. Despite the composure of Laura Sharman who got the ball out of the Hertford D several times under pressure, and the crucial tackles by man of the match Nicola Estherby, Shefford scored once more for an end result of 4-1.
