Hertford had a late in the day fixture for their first home game of the season, and perhaps this caused the slow start and early opening goal for Brentwood 1s. Caught off guard, Hertford conceded within the first ten minutes from open play, Brentwood working the ball down the right of the pitch to find a free player who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The early goal from the opposition was a wake up call and Hertford restarted with more enthusiasm, Leah Wilkerson being the first to be denied by the Brentwood keeper. The next ten minutes was end to end, with attack followed by counterattack until Liz Berry scored the equaliser for Hertford with a superb deflection into the net.
Lifted by the goal, Hertford were on the hunt for a second. Molly Pallett and Maddy Twyning worked well in mid-field and forced several short corners, only to be denied by a solid Brentwood defence. Hertford looked the stronger side in the run up to half time, but were caught on the break by a skillful run from a Brentwood player who smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.
Hertford started the second half under pressure from Brentwood, but solid defending by the back three held them off, and a determined effort from Basil Wilkins in the middle gave Hertford increased possession. Hertford finally found their form, made more triangular passes and began to threaten Brentwood's defence. A quickly taken free hit from Wilkins worked its way through to Berry who scored a well deserved equaliser.
As they demonstrated last week, Hertford were resolute to the last with the midfield and man of the match Mel Evans working tirelessly to hold Brentwood to a 2-2 draw.
