The two Mollies burgle Bedford of 3 points
By Lianne Warnell
A hat-trick of goals from the two Mollies gave Hertford all three points as they edged out promotion rivals Bedford in a tense encounter.
Hertford travelled to Bedford for a very chilly game on Saturday. After losing narrowly last time they met and with Bedford just one place below in the league, Hertford were keen to settle the score.
Hertford started well with some forceful attacks putting Bedford on the back foot. After keeping possession and biding their time, Molly Pallet found the backboard to put Hertford ahead. However this excitement was short-lived as Bedford were quick to reply with a short slipped left finding the net soon after and Coach Steve Quiddington harshly threatened with expulsion from the astro for over-enthusiastic coaching!
The break for half time allowed Hertford to recoup and Molly Hobson capitalised on the restart taking the opportunity to drive up the pitch and fully commit the keeper. A handballed save from the Bedford defence on the line gave away a penalty that Hobson netted clinically.
As Bedford got more frantic and after several brilliant saves, a stay ball finally managed to slide past Lianne Warnell to make the score 2-2. Hertford refused to get down-hearted and channelled their last dregs of energy into several more vicious attacks from both sides of the pitch.
This persistence paid off for Hertford and as the Bedford defence tired Pallet netted stylishly with a reverse smash into the top corner to end the match with a well-fought 3-2 win for Hertford.
Top Hertford supporter Ali Hobson said of the nail-biting contest - “I can’t take this every week girls!” Hertford will face Welwyn at Simon Balle in the local derby on Saturday 26th Jan.
