Goals from Emily Butler and Molly Hobson saw Hertford comeback from two goals down to secure a draw that leaves them just a point off the top of the table

Hertford Ladies 1s continued their good form and secured a solid draw at home this weekend in a thrilling match against Saffron Walden 2s.

The first half of the match was tense with both teams battling hard to secure the ball and take the upper hand. A body shot into Megan Quiddington 15 minutes in proved the first real test for Hertford as Walden were awarded a penalty flick. However keep Lianne Warnell remained composed and pulled off an epic diving save to keep Hertford out of trouble.

Walden continued to pile on the pressure and their persistence eventually paid off as they secured a short corner. Despite solid effort from the Hertford defence a 3rd deflection snuck over the goal line to close the half.

Walden continued their momentum post half time netting a second goal 5 minutes in. However this only spurred Herford on who finally found their focus and started to break down the rangy Walden defence. A brilliant team drive down the pitch and flick across the goal created a great opportunity for Hertford, and allowed Emily Butler to put Hertford back in the game with their 1st goal and Holly Mayes to add to her tally of assists from last week.

From that point on Hertford found their form with Laura Sharman executing a crucial save on the line to stop a promising Walden attack. After a quick restart, Mayes again found Hobson who powered her way along the base line to skilfully crash a reverse ball onto the backboard to bring Hertford level.

As the game wore on and Saffron Walden tired they battened down the hatches and switched to a defensive formation. Hertford were denied again and again only by some incredible saves from the Walden goalie and unfortunately time ran out before Hertford could secure the win, leaving the score at 2-2.

Substitutions Manager and Hertford Superfan Pete Hobson said
‘I didn’t choose the subs life the subs life chose me".
He added
“It was a terrific comeback and great team performance against a solid side"
