Hertford felt confident on Saturday with a full strength side to face Welwyn. A high tempo game was the target for captain and Hertford dually obliged. The pace and power of a youthful, yet experienced midfield of Sophie Rawlinson, Maddy Twyning, Catryn Langley and Lotte Butler was too much for the away team. A series of short corners was the result, with man of the match Butler putting away a very impressive drag flick into the roof of the net.
The other end, Teresa Bartrum was putting her body on the line to block a shot, leaving her outstretched on the floor. The follow up shot was cleared by Nicola Estherby. Welwyn were able to break down the sturdy defence with a deflected shot which passed Ella Mitham in goal.
At the break the word 'Tempo' was emphasised and Hertford showed their ability to control the game. Possession and territory was all in the Welwyn circle. Eventually after a number of saves, a speedy run from captain Molly Pallett, found Sian Foster in front of goal who was able to slot the ball through the keepers legs.
Welwyn showed their experience by scoring in the dying minute of the game. Although points dropped as Hertford deserved the win, the interlinking play of the Hertford team looks encouraging for the final few games.
