Hertford welcomed Basildon on Saturday with their new, freshed face and developing team. Gill Liddy was making her debut in goal which received a difficult start as Basildon found themselves ahead in the opening few minutes. Hertford allowed the opposition to utilise a free hit at the top of the shooting circle allowing the opposition to much space and time.
This sparked the home team into life, with Sophie Rawlinson, Maddy Twyning and Molly Pallett driving the midfield, showing pace, passing and power. The equaliser came off an attack created by Claire Hawes on the wing, which found Sian Foster in space with a simple slot in through the keepers legs.
The second goal followed a similar pattern, but off the other wing. On this occasion Fosters initial strike was saved, but captain Pallett was quickest to react and slotted the ball around a stranded keeper. Hertford had a few more opportunities to extend the league through a physical battle between the away keeper and Jen Heath.
Basildon applied the pressure in the second half, even with the heroics of Gill in goal, making a fine number of saves. Teresa Bartrum, Hannah Brown and Nicola Sharkey were under pressure as the home team faced wave after wave of attacks. Basildon were able to equalise from a deflected shot at goal which left the defence with no choice.
Hertford did finish the stronger of the two teams, with a very strong performance from Catryn and Bethan Langley who have recently joined the first team set, the futures looking bright even with a disappointing result.
