Hertford ladies 1's had to settle for another loss against Stevenage at the weekend despite a great effort from the whole team.
Hertford looked strong in the first half and the first goal came from forward Liz Berry who swept the ball past the keeper after a great hit up from midfield. Stevenage were quick to come back though and a retaliation goal came just minutes after forcing Hertford to step up their game. Despite a number of great crosses from Helen Owen Hertford struggled to score anymore and instead focused on some excellent defending which kept the score at 1-1 for half time.
Stevenage somehow bagged a flick at the start of the second half which they put away and following that, they were hungry for a win. Hertford began to play a narrower game and started to look tired which Stevenage took advantage of flicking one over GK Tina Hills to make it 2-3. Some pacey attacks by Hertford did create chances and some short corners were won but they were defended well by Stevenage.
It was in the dying minutes of the game Hertford were awarded a flick which forward Sian Foster secured and the final whistle blew at 2-3. A frustrating loss but a fairly enjoyable game and a special mention to Helen Owen for her fantastic work down the right wing.
