Hertford travelled with a very inexperienced side, but full of energy and a determined spirit. This was proven when in the opening 10 minutes when Sophie Rawlinson smashed the ball to Sian Foster who drew the keeper and slotted the ball to Liz Berry who swept the ball into the goal beating the defender on the line. When Hertford played with pace Basildon were struggling to contain the Hertford attack.
Basildon were able to equalise within minutes when a very well struck shot beat Tina Hills in goal. The home team scored agin on the half time whistle through a scruffy short corner routine. Hertford felt a little deflated to conced before the break.
The second half started with Jenny Goodson, Maddy Twyning and Helen Owen causing Basildon problems. The game then changed when a 25 min break was required to treat Katie Brown who injured her knee. Brown and Berry travelled to A&E to check out the damage. This leaving Hertford with 9 players. During the 25 remaining minutes Basildon were able to score through a counter attack move. A very young Hertford side should be proud of the performance in difficult conditions.
