At Second Placed Albans

Hertford ladies 1's played some of their best hockey yet this season holding St Albans 3's to a 1-1 draw away at the weekend.

Hertford started a bit slow allowing St Albans to put pressure on our defence with their pacey wingers and their short sharp passes. The defense of Nicky Estherby, Hannah Brown, Teresa Bartrum and Lottie Butler cleared the ball relentlessly however and managed to hold off at least 5 short corners before the St Albans captain slotted one past the keeper to take them ahead with a straight strike.

From that moment on something in the Hertford team clicked and they looked hungry to equalise. Captain Molly Pallett consistently stole the ball off the St. Albans players and Hertford began to look really dangerous on the break.
The second half was all our game. The equaliser finally came from play up the left wing which was fantastic hockey from Sophie Rawlinson to Liz berry and then into Sian Foster who slotted it home.

Hertford had plenty more chances from open play and short corners but were unable to take the lead. This included a fantastic deflection from Liz Berry off of Fosters strike on a short corner but unfortunately the umpires failed to see the body save made by a St. Albans defender on the line behind the keeper and Hertford were robbed of a penalty flick.

Above all, it was a great game of hockey by Hertford and has raised confidence in the upcoming game next week. Special mention to joint man of the match Lotte Butler and Molly Pallett for their relentless fighting spirit.
