Hertford Ladies Unlucky Losers

After the long journey Hertford found themselves under great pressure for the opening 10 minutes of the first half, facing no more than 7 short corners. Tina Hill was able to deal with range of shots along with her trusty backline defence of Nicola Estherby, Teresa Bartrum and Lottie Butler. It took some time for Hertford to use what possession they had to create some quality attack, and with the second attack on goal Hertford found themselves 1 - 0 up. A hard Molly Pallett cross, got the slightest of touches from Liz Berry which put Sian Foster in the best position to score.

Foster should have made it 2-0 but for a fine save by the keeper off a short corner routine. It was an even contest up to the half time break with Helen Owen and Maddy Twyning achieving success with their pace and power down the wings. However it was becoming more and more competitive in the defence due to the frustration of the home team and player of the match Teresa Bartram disrupting most of the Royston attacks.

The second half was fraught with incidents, a string of penalty corners and a flick for the home team, a green card which could easily have been a yellow for dissent from the Royston strike leading to a more and more vocal home crowd who were making their point of view known. However Hertford were able to hold out and had their chances in attack, if few and far between. Unfortunately for Hertford the tireless efforts would be all in vain as a follow up shot from a short corner was put away and the flick awarded was initially saved but went in off the shoulder of Hills. Hertford left the field knowing they had been in an away battle, but had played in the spirit of the game and given it their all.
