Hertford didn't have the greatest start to the new season, as 3 players were unable to make the push back due to a few direction issues, however Hertford starting with 8 on the pitch for 10 minutes were able to hold the fort. Hertford had to face 2 short corners but Tina Hill on goal and her trusty defence were able to clear the ball and soak up the pressure before the lost car arrived.
The back bone of the performance was the ability of the back line, Nicola Estherby, Teresa Bartum and Hannah Brown were playing high up the pitch cutting off all Southend attacks. Within minutes of being at full strength Hertford won a short corner, which Sian Foster was able to capitalise from, turning on the ball to blast it home.
New player to the Ladies first team, Lottie Butler was settling in well, with her gutsy style of defence and her ability to find the gap with her pass. She created the second goal with a pass to Foster in the circle, who once again was given the space to turn and shoot.
The second half was all one way, Hertford's way. Helen Owen was using her pace to get into great positions to shoot but both the keeper and some wide shots was the result. Sophie Rawlinson and Maddy Twyning had chances which again were foiled by the Southend defence.
With 3 minutes to go, man of the match Sian Foster finally completed her hat-trick having missed a number of earlier chances, with a one on one with the keeper situation and she slotted into the corner well out of reach. A great start to the season, with a difficult opening 10 minutes, however Hertford know that too many chances went begging, and improvement is needed for the more challenging opposition
