Three more points bagged

The Development Team took on the other unbeaten team in their Division in a hard fought but fair game on Saturday. It started well but we found ourselves under more pressure as Berko pressed us hard from the outset. The defense, supported by the midfield, held firm with James and Max playing well. We began to get ourselves into what has become the routine of passing the ball well and attacking down the right. The pressure on the Berko goal was rewarded with a good solo goal by Doug. Tim was then in an accidental collision with one of their players which Tim cam off second best. For a few seconds, Tim stood with his feet planted firmly on the ground while the rest of his body did the rumba! Thankfully he put his Strictly skills behind him as he got his head straight. Ed showed some good touches up front, and Ciaran and Archie buzzed around causing problems all day. The second goal was a beauty with Archie using his speed and skill on a quick break, and pulled the ball back for Ciaran to hit a beautiful shot into the goal.
The second half was hard work. We continued to play good hockey but Berko always looked dangerous on the break and kept us on our toes. Tom had already pulled off a sharp save in the first half, and saved the day when he rushed out to pull off a double save to keep another clean sheet. The defense stayed fairly solid, supported by some good tracking back from the midfield.
The final whistle was a welcome sound - a very good and enjoyable game of hockey against a very able team who played in the right spirit. I was knackered,and not many of our team had much left in the tank, but another three points was a great reward for the effort.
