A hard drawn 2-2, played in the right spirit. A nice start to the season.

Starting with your best player on the bench is always a risky strategy, and it looked to have cost the 3s as Peterborough opened the game with a lax stroll down the centre of the pitch to open the scoring. However the captain's decision was vindicated very shortly afterwards when Luke Rawlinson leveled the score minutes later. A lovely scramble on the goal line - the kind the 3s didn't score from last season.

Once the start of season nerves had settled, and Miles had tied his laces having ran straight onto the pitch from his car, Hertford got the better of the exchanges. A summer of inter club games against the great and the good of Hertford meant that the team looked in good nick, and not too many gasping wheezing jogs, or cramps.

There were superb debuts from Euan, Graham, Rob and Geoff - none of whom ever looked out of place. The missing players who couldn't be bothered to make the trip out the glamour of Peterborough will struggle to get back into the team.

The second half saw an evenly matched contest, with Hertford seeing the best of the chances going begging - a noticeable opportunity for Russ comes to mind. Unfortunately Peterborough broke the deadlock, and it took the rest of the half of pressure to break them down to equalise. A very rare goal from Renn on his birthday - how lovely. While not wearing his trade mark beanie, he attempted a reverse hit, which played gently off of a defenders stick conveniently onto his strong side. With a little wiggle to gain space he popped it into the bottom corner of the goal - to everyone's surprise.

The only other highlight was Jon L bravely fending off a seagull, that nobody else saw, and throwing his stick over the fence while attempting to take a free hit. This was enough to earn him the title of Gentleman's "Member" of the Match - despite his fabulous talent. Man of the match went to the more tolerable Rawlinson - Luke.
