Winning return to the New year

After an extended break, the Men's 3's returned to action with a rearranged game against Harpenden 4's with revenge for a heavy opening day defeat very much on the menu.

A few changes to the team with Lee Barber filling in as could not travel with the men's 2's and Jeremiah promoted from the 4's, the 3's started very well knocking the ball around well and keeping possession well with Richard Rawlinson controlling play from his new centre back role.

It took a while, but from some hesitancy in the Harpenden back line, Steve Worrall finished from close range. Soon afterwards the 3's doubled their lead through Jasper Carr, before Steve Worrall added a third from a Andy Williamson cross cum shot.

Despite the domination, Hertford did concede just before half time, when a decent ball in was finished well by the Harpenden centre forward.

Harpenden started the second half strongly with 3 short corners forced early on, but the boys at the back kept the danger at bay. The second half continued to be a tight affair, until a speculative shot from the top of the D looped over Tom Smith in goal to leave the score at 3-2. Despite this Hertford did control possession and create the better opportunities in the remainder of the game but failed to put the game (Skipper's Clive Insole Yellow card didn't help!) to bed and their were a few nervous moments when Harpenden won a short corner with seconds remaining, but again Hertford stood firm.

So an excellent win and great start to the new year and a great team performance from Richard Rawlinson at the back to Steve Worrall at the front, has moved us to 4th in the table.

Next week sees a double header, with West Herts 5's visiting Balls Park on Saturday and a trip to Letchworth on Sunday.
