The Winning Feeling Continues

The Men's 3's turn up for the first game of the season in good spirits, missing Captain Clive Insole we still had a squad of 14 players. Matt Earle dropped down from the 2's to play and a debut from Jon Layfield.

Hertford started the game well in a new 4-1-4-1 formation, with Stevie Worrall playing the high loan striker role with Jasper and Hugo supporting him well down the flanks. Although dominating possession, apart from a great save from a Tony Morrison corner the Stevenage keeper did not have a great deal to do. Hertford finally broken the deadlock with a straight strike by Matt Earle from a short corner, this was quickly followed by a second goal with Stevie Worrall getting a touch to a long ball into the D to give Hertford a 2-0 lead. Stevenage replied almost immediately with a goal, but a debut goal from the hard running Jonathan Layfield restored the lead before half time

The second half was played at a much slower pace as the humidity started to take it's toll on both teams, Hertford started to lose there shape a little as the team as a whole tired. But they still added a forth after a great run down the right leaving Stevie Worrall with a simple tap in at the far post. Stevenage did reply with a late short corner, but the 3's managed to hold on for a good win and a good start to the season.

Some excellent performances by individuals, Jon Layfield had a good debut, Smudger made some great saves and Jasper worked very hard, some great runs, in a new position for him on the left of midfield.

The only sour part of the day was young Finn turn his ankle and has does some ligament damage (luckily no break!)

Long trip to Saffron Walden next week, and hopefully another victory to celebrate
