The mighty 3's came into this game full of confidence after their winning run, despite missing a few regulars, against Ricky 2's who sat just below them in the table.
We started the game well, controlling possession and creating some decent changes that the Ricky keeper did well to keep out (became a theme of the game!). Hertford finally took the lead from a short corner, with Tony Morrison striking from the top of the D. Against the run of play Ricky won a short corner for themselves and after the ball was deflected into the air it was finished well by the Ricky forward.
This took the steam out of Hertford for a while, and Ricky won a penalty stroke, which Smudger saved/hit the post again - he obviously has some presence!!! :-)
This gave Hertford heart, and they poured forward for the remainder of the half, and some poor finishing and good keeping from the Ricky captain kept the scores level at half time.
The second half, Ricky had more purpose, and controlled the game more than the first half. But despite that they did not really looked like scoring as they hit long passes that did not always find their target. But they did go ahead midway through the half as a defensive slip allowed a Ricky player a clean run on goal and he rounded Smudger and finished.
Hertford made life harder for themselves as they where reduced to 10 men for 5 minutes as Henderson-Lea was yellow carded for lying down on the pitch..................not enough commitment from the Ginger Prince!
Despite all their hard work, Hertford could not find that final pass or finish to get the goal that they deserved. With Ricky celebrating their win at the final whistle, showed how well we had played without getting any reward.
We move on to next week and the short trip to Potters Bar to re-establish that winning feeling
Heads up chaps.
