Orange slices provided by home team pay dividends to Hertford as they notch their second victory of the season.

As Hertford prepared for their 7th match of the season, one thing became apparent: the youth knew how to a game on time, and some senior members of the team relying too much on past knowledge of pitches in Luton.

Hertford started on the front foot, putting Vauxhall on the back foot from the off, and won a short corner early in the game, but were unable to convert. Hertford maintained the pressure for the first 15 minutes of the game, and did so effectively, but were unable to break the deadlock. Vauxhall found their feet and soon had Hertford under pressure. Hertford's defence held firm, with Ollie and Ben mopping up the optimistic through balls. The light-footed Matt Earle met his match midway through the first half, when an equally nimble Vauxhall player decided to run into Matt Debutant Sam Moloney worked hard throughout the half working back to help the defence and work the ball out from the back. Stan and Matt controlled the ball well through the middle as Hertford looked to press forward and snatch a goal before the end of the half. Despite both turning up late (partly my fault!), Stan and Damien both found time to hook their ariels off the pitch and call for a replacement ball to be brought on. Apparently Stan hooked his more so it was worse...

The half time time score was 0-0. Ben Tootell provided an inspirational comment during the half time team talk, saying that 'If the player beat you that's great!' before realising that it isn't great, and backtracking on his comment. The Vauxhall captain supplied us with some orange slices that led to us starting brightly in the second half. Hertford eventually got on the scoreboard, with several chances in front of goal, Matt Earle mishit the ball into the roof of the net from close range. Hertford then quickly got another, this time Russ deflecting in neatly off a cross from Luke Rawlinson. This gave Hertford some much needed breathing space, which paid off when Tom in goal deflected a drag flick from a short corner to an opposition player who swiped in from close range. Hertford maintained their composure to prevent any further goals from being conceded, and in the dying minutes of the game, a flowing passing move from the back played all the way forward to Archie who connected well with his shot, only for it to got wide of the target.

Final score Vauxhall 1-2 Hertford (Earle, Adlam)
