Despite only 3 players in the team playing in the previous game, Hertford maintained their 100% win rate in this years Summer League with a 4-1 win over Whippersnappers. The team included debuts from Graham Sparrey, Nick Umney, Renn Makan, Richard Rawlinson & Miles Henderson-Lea.
Hertford once again began the came quickly and pressed Whippersnappers from the push back, creating multiple chance within the first few minutes. The first goal cam courtesy of a short corner flick from Nick Downer in the opening 10 minutes of the game, a push out from Richard Rawlinson, stopped by Mike Hawes & finished calmly by Downer. The first Hertford carried on in the same manor with Tom Smith only having to make a few saves in the Hertford Goal. One of which being a superb reaction double save to keep the game at 1-0. The lead was soon doubled when Luke Rawlinson finished off a fine piece of play before moving into the half time break.
A Half-time team talk by Richard Rawlinson reminded Hertford that they must not get complacent despite the scoreline sitting at 2-0 and that the game was still very much open to a Whippersnappers comeback. Despite the Half-time team talk, it was the opposition who got the first goal of the second half thanks to a quick counter attack and fine finish from their centre forward. With 10 minutes to go and the score still at 2-1, Hertford moved to a 4-4-2 formation to try and see out the game and secure the 3 points. The formation appeared to work in Hertfords favour though as they scored 2 more goals before the end of the game. The first coming from debutant Nick Umney who had previously had a shot roll across the line after hitting the post, and the second coming from a back post tap in from the young Luke Rawlinson.
Hertford now sit happily on 9 points in the table and look forward to their 4th clash next Thursday against Potters Bar.
